Grand Opening Celebration Update

We have picked a date for the grand opening celebration of our Sirisha Global Bazaar at Orenco Station store, which is on August 3rd, from 2pm until  5pm.

Ever since we began planning our new space we entertained thoughts of what we wanted our grand opening to be like.  Of course, we wanted it to be very special as this event will be a way of formally introducing ourselves to our new customers, and an expression of thanks to those customers who have supported us through the years in our old location.

We have a generous space right in front of the store that will accomodate all of our festivities and perhaps even extend the celebration out to those who are feeling a bit shy to attend.

- Traditional Thai Dance Presentation by the Thai Association of Oregon (for something similar to what you might see, you can watch a You Tube video of a Thai Dance troupe here)

This is going to be absolutely stunning, and should have Orenco Station buzzing for a few days afterwards

- Special Buddhist Blessing Ceremony

Venerable Shin Kuei from the Kwan Yin Temple in Portland, OR will come and perform a special blessing ceremony for our space.  This is symbolic in nature and people of all faiths should find it interesting and inspiring.

- Hourly Gift Drawings, to be held at 2:15pm, 3:15pm and 4:15pm.

As a kid I remember watching a show on TV featuring pearl divers who would dive to tremendous depths in order to harvest pearls. They would dive into the water, sans any assisted breathing apparatus, leaving only bubbles in their wake.
After what seemed like an eternity they would bob back up to the surface with waist packs, bags, baskets, and nets filled with pearl-bearing oysters.  Needless to say I was very impressed…the rich bounty was amazing but mostly I was astonished by how long they could hold their breath during their death defying dives. I would try to emulate them at the pool (sometimes in the bathtub!) and I could only make it for 30 seconds (less in most cases to be totally honest) or so before pushing back above the water, gasping for air.  Some of these expert divers can dive to depths of well over 100 feet on a single breath.  Those who could successfully pull this off were richly rewarded with buckets of beautiful pearls.  Me? I swallowed a ton of water trying  to mimic them.

Lek and I have felt much like these divers, disappearing into a black hole for nearly two months .  We had no idea what was involved in an undertaking of this nature as it was a much bigger project than what we ever imagined. We felt absolutely consumed by all that needed to be done, and wondered many times if we had bitten off more than we could chew. Now that we are on the other side of the project  we feel very fortunate to have emerged with a great new shop for our ourselves and for our customers to enjoy.  It is every bit as beautiful as we hoped, has a feeling of peace and calm, is part of a lively and vibrant neighborhood and is a place that is easy for our Downtown Hillsboro location customers to visit.  At this point we can’t imagine that we could have picked a better location to continue on with the next phase of our business building.  We’ve “officially” been open for a little over two weeks now and the reception that we’ve received from the local area has been tremendous.  We are also incredibly happy to see many customers and friends from our old location come to see`us.

We’d like to thank the contractors and vendors who did such a superb job for us.  We can highly recommend any of them and have contact information available for you if you have a need for similar products and/or services.

Most of all we’d like to thank our dear friends (many of whom we became acquainted with as customers) for literally coming to us in our darkest moments, with virtual flashlights and torches in hand, to help us find our way.  We couldn’t have done it without you! These flashlights and torches that I speak of came in the form of selfless hours of help on our “Do it yourself” projects, providing spare tools that we didn’t have handy,  surprise meals and kind words of encouragement.  On our final (and particularly grueling) project of laying the hardwood floor, our friends signed their names on the last piece of flooring that we put down. It is awesome to think that this bit of history will remain in our shop for many years to come.  The acts of kindness that these, and all of our friends, lent us during the move and in building out the new space will remain in our hearts for much longer. Thank you dear friends!

Way back in February of 2008 we placed our spring orders with our vendors in SE Asia and then went back personally in May to inspect products and coordinate our shipments from Vietnam and Thailand.  With economic conditions that way that they are we felt that it was particularly important that, in addition to being beautiful, the products that we were bringing home for our customers needed to possess a high degree of practicality and day-to-day usefulness.  

New Product Line - Vietnamese Lacquer Serving Bowls/Dishes

With the above mentioned practicality in mind we have added a beautiful new line of lacquer serving bowls, dishes and serving trays from Vietnam.  These are incredibly beautiful, uniquely designed, food-safe and come in a variety of designs, colors, and sizes; Uses range from salad serving bowls to individual-sized bowls and dishes for sushi, sauces and rice. We are confident that you will see nothing anywhere that compares to the quality of this new product line and at prices that we’re sure you’ll be happy with.

Coming in early July will be a new line of wooden salad fork/spoon sets and rice serving spoons to accompany our new serving bowls and dishes.

Enhanced Product Line - Sirisha® Brand Sleepwear

It’s been a year since we took our  first sleepwear designs to our wonderful SE Asian manufacturers, which included both Men’s and Women’s pajama and robe sets.  We sold through these very quickly to great reviews, and now have added new colors, a new women’s shorty pajama design, a new linen lounge pant design as well as adding some features that mark a distinct improvement over the first generation of product.

Enhanced Product Line - 92.5% Silver Jewelry

Arriving the first week of July, we’ll be receiving a shipment of new silver jewelry products from Bangkok, Thailand.  We will be adding a great new set of designs, including pendants, earrings and rings with accents in Marcasite, Black Agate, Cubic Zirconium, Mother of Pearl, and Fresh Water Pearl.  We’ll also have several new 92.5% Silver bracelets as well as two new styles of chain necklaces in 16″, 18″, 20″, 22″ and 24″ lengths to compliment our growing selection of pendants. We’ll be sending out an update as soon as we receive these new additions.

Enhanced Product Line - Classic Thai Silk Blouses/Skirts/Dresses

Also coming the first week of July, we’ll be getting in a host of new Thai blouses, skirts and dresses for summer.  These designs are made using Mudmee Thai Silk fabric, which is handmade on looms (versus machine made) and provides for the utmost in breathability and comfort. 

Report on Projects

We have been working on some exciting projects that we told you about in our last newsletter.  We’d like to share the progress that we’ve made;

Bed Covers/Pillows

We have a manufacturer lined up to begin making these for us, but we are still in the sample-making phase at this point.  Once we have evaluated preliminary sample products we’ll be submitting our final designs for production this coming fall.  We welcome any suggestions for colors, design ideas, etc. at the following email address: newproductrequest@sirishaglobalbazaar.com
and will offer a 40% discount off of the regular retail price to the customer submitting the idea, if your idea is incorporated into one of our final designs.

Sirisha Global Bazaar at Orenco Station

We would love to give you a definite date for when the new location is opening but it is still somewhat up in the air.  As this is a new building we have to wait until the construction has been completed on the inside of our space before we can get the keys and begin our own preparations for opening.  The good news is that the Nexus project management is moving their construction work along quite nicely and we are expecting to be able to take over the space sometime in late April or very early May.  We drive by nearly every day and can see thing progressing along very quickly.  If you’d like to check the new location out, it is at 6194 NE Cornell Road Hillsboro, OR 97124 on the corner of Cornell Road and Orenco Station Parkway.

In regards to our work; we have submitted (and had approved) our floor plans, have already met with and selected a general contractor to oversee the work as a whole, selected a sign maker for a bright and beautiful back lit “Sirisha Global Bazaar” sign and a cabinet maker for the in-store displays that we are having made.  You can expect a larger, mirrored fitting room area as well as very well defined sections for each of our main product lines.  We are adding several exciting new products lines and expanding our top products lines.  We’re staying the same, but changing and evolving to try and meet our customers needs in new an unique ways. As a famous S.E. Asia saying goes, we’ll be “Same Same But Different”. 

It is with gratitude that we post this month’s news.  Many people unfamiliar with us come in and ask if we are going out of business. We are incredibly grateful to all of our customers for the fact that we can tell them that we are moving upward and onward rather than down and out AND that we have the special privilege of inviting all of our friends to come along with us.

We are well into the transition of old to new.  We have been moving product all week in preparation for our last days at 230 East Main Street and from now until April 19th we’ll be featuring a select grouping of items that have been marked down for immediate savings of up to 30%.
